Danny Michel

Songwriting is a craft. It requires dedication and passion and can be a consuming effort. And for artists like Danny Michel, songwriting is a lifestyle – something Michel has demonstrated for more than a decade.

Hailing form Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Michel began writing, performing and recording his songs in the mid-1990s collecting small pockets of dedicated fans throughout Southern Ontario. In 2003 he signed a deal with MapleMusics and released the album Tales from the Invisible Man, which earned him a Juno nod for “New Artist of the Year.”

Quickly garnering attention for his ability to write songs that tackle massive global issues such as environmentalism, using compassionate lyrics and graceful guitar licks (and a touch of good-natured humour), Michel began to catch the eye of some of Canada’s most humblest of heros, such as David Suzuki. In 2008, Michel independently released Feather, Fur & Fin and the title track from that album was later featured on the?David Suzuki Foundation’s Playlist for the Planet.

Danny Michel plays the Marquee Club on Friday, January 24 with Steve Poltz and Jadea Kelly as part of In the Dead of Winter. Show starts at 9 p.m. Tickets are $23 advance/$28 door.
