Halifax photographer Scott Blackburn, the camera-wielding wizard behind all the original photos for?Mixtape Magazine?over the past four years, has taken over 500 portraits of the East Coast music scene.
As part of the East Coast Music Awards festivities in Halifax this week, his black and white portraits will be at the Marriot Sable Foyer Room from May 2-6. There’s an opening reception at 7 pm on Wednesday, May 2 where he’ll talk about the expansive project.
Hop on over to Instagram for some samples of what’s on display. Along with the portraits, Blackburn has conducted mini interviews with each subject to showcase their role in the music scene along with a couple other fun tidbits.
The East Coast Music Portraits project started at the ECMAs in Saint John, NB in 2017 and includes portraits from other events including Nova Scotia Music Week and Music PEI.

Quilty pleasure: Day-old coffee. I’ve been drinking coffee since I was 8 years old. I used to steal what was left at the bottom of my dad’s coffee in the mornings and save it up and drink the old nasty cold coffee and learned to love it.
Favourite thing about the east coast: Breathing space.
Secret talent: ?Surprises.
